Fenton T. Erwin, Jr. is the Managing Partner of the
Charlotte, North Carolina law firm of Erwin and Eleazer,
P.A. Mr. Erwin has practiced law for more than 40 years in
the Charlotte, North Carolina area and is a seasoned trial
lawyer, having tried more than 100 cases in his long and
distinguished career. Although he is well-known for his
acumen in the courtroom, he possesses a deft ability to
counsel clients so that they do not have to reach that
point, unless necessary.
Mr. Erwin was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up in
Asheville, North Carolina. In 1963, he graduated from East
Carolina University and, in 1966, graduated from the
University of North Carolina School of Law School. Upon
graduation from law school, he moved to Charlotte to begin
his legal career during which he has practiced with several
firms and, notably, served as managing partner for the law
firm of Weinstein & Sturges, P.A. during the 1990s.
Mr. Erwin focuses his practice on business disputes,
construction matters, and serious personal injury cases. But
he is admired for his breadth of knowledge on all legal
subjects. He is North Carolina counsel for the American
Subcontractors Association of the Carolinas and participated
in the drafting of North Carolina Prompt Pay Law and the
North Carolina statute rendering "pay when paid" clauses
unenforceable. He has represented several clients whose
cases have reached the Supreme Court of the United States,
the Supreme Court of North Carolina, and the Court of
Appeals of North Carolina, some of which established
valuable precedents in the law. Mr. Erwin is highly sought
after for his wisdom and guidance in counseling clients
through all types of dispute resolution.
Mr. Erwin is extremely active and well-respected in the
North Carolina legal community. He is a member of the
American Bar Association where he serves on the Construction
Forum and is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Trial
Lawyers and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr.
Erwin is in high demand as a speaker for construction
industry trade groups and often is asked to lecture for
continuing legal education programs.
