Attorneys
Lex M. Erwin attended The University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in History in 1997. Mr. Erwin continued his education
in Chapel Hill where he received his law degree in 2000.
During law school, Mr. Erwin was a member of the prestigious
North Carolina Law Review.
Upon graduation from The University of North Carolina School
of Law, Mr. Erwin joined the law firm of King & Spalding,
LLP in Atlanta, Georgia. King & Spalding, LLP is an
international law firm with more than 800 lawyers in six
offices. King & Spalding, LLP is recognized as one of the
premiere law firms in the country. Mr. Erwin was a member of
the Business Litigation team and specialized in litigating
commercial disputes between businesses, labor and employment
disputes, and representing officers and directors in
securities litigation. While at King & Spalding, LLP, he
received training and mentoring from some of the best
lawyers in the country. In 2002, King & Spalding, LLP
recognized his contributions to the community and
under-privileged by awarding him its Pro Bono Service Award.
Mr. Erwin spent five years of his career at King & Spalding,
LLP and enjoyed numerous litigation victories, that
included:
- Successfully defended a multi-million dollar breach of
contract and business tort case in which he persuaded the
Court to dismiss all claims against his client before trial.
- Prosecuted a Racketeering, Fraud, and Breach of Contract
case on behalf of a telecommunications company against a
competitor and received a large, confidential settlement on
the eve of trial.
- Participated in numerous mediations in which he negotiated
favorable settlements for his clients.
- Represented Northwest Airlines and The Coca-Cola Company
in multiple racial discrimination lawsuits and obtained
complete defense verdicts and favorable settlements.
- Defended Sprint PCS in a $274 million case and managed
discovery involving over two million documents and more than
forty depositions.
In 2005, Mr. Erwin returned to his hometown of Charlotte,
North Carolina and joined his father's law practice at Erwin
and Eleazer, P.A. Mr. Erwin specializes in commercial
litigation, construction law, employment issues, and real
estate disputes. He is regularly asked to speak on
subcontractor issues and lien issues, in addition to
publishing articles on various construction litigation
issues. His extensive knowledge of business law and labor
and employment law gives him a wealth of insight that
benefits his clients through all aspects of dispute
resolution.
Since joining Erwin and Eleazer, P.A., Mr. Erwin has had
several notable accomplishments, which included:
- Obtained a favorable settlement for several subcontractors
that performed work on a $100 million, 1,200 acre golf
course project where the developer went out of business.
- Negotiated numerous commercial and residential contracts
for contractors, subcontractors, and homeowners such that
his clients’ interests were protected through favorable
contract terms, including contracts related to the
construction of a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the demolition of the
old Charlotte Coliseum, and million dollar homes.
- Obtained funds for subcontractor clients when general
contractors and/or owners failed to pay for work performed
by the subcontractors.
- Represented individual homeowners against contractors in
residential disputes and negotiated successful settlement
amounts for his clients.
Mr. Erwin is licensed to practice law in the states of North
Carolina and Georgia and is admitted to the following
courts: North Carolina state courts, including the Court of
Appeals of North Carolina and the Supreme Court of North
Carolina; North Carolina federal courts, including the
Western District of North Carolina, Middle District of North
Carolina, and Eastern District of North Carolina; Georgia
state courts; the Court of Appeals of Georgia; the Supreme
Court of Georgia; the United States District Court for
Northern District of Georgia, and; the Eleventh Circuit
Court of Appeals. |
